Wright County trustees say DD 36 Lateral C repair exceeded estimate; landowners to be assessed

Wright County drainage trustees met Jan. 20 to inform landowners that a repair on Drainage District 36, Lateral C, has exceeded the original contractor estimate and will be billed to the district's assessed landowners.
County drainage administrator Courtney Morris told trustees the total recorded cost as of Dec. 30, 2024, was $83,912.50, and that the contractor estimated remaining dozer work and 200 tons of riprap would bring the construction total to about $96,187.50, with seeding estimated separately at $23,400. A landowner later suggested the total project could approach roughly $125,000 once remaining work and contingencies are included.
The informational meeting was called after work began under an initial estimate of $48,700. County staff said early site conditions — prior "dip outs," sandy soils and unstable banks — required reshaping the ditch rather than a simple bottom "dip out," which increased the scope and cost.
