Florence Unified board adopts agenda, reorganizes officers and approves consent items

The Florence Unified School District Governing Board met Jan. 14, 2025, and moved through routine organizational and consent business, adopting the meeting agenda, electing officers for 2025, setting its regular meeting schedule and approving the consent agenda.

At the start of the meeting a motion to adopt the agenda was made and seconded and the board voted to adopt it. The board then elected Roger Beatty as governing board president for 2025 and Megan Wiegand as vice president. The board also voted to set regular 2025 board meetings on the second Tuesday of each month, with work-study sessions at 5:30 p.m. and regular meetings at 6 p.m., and to use the Florence Unified School District administration building and the district website as official posting places for agendas.

The consent agenda, presented later in the meeting, was moved, seconded and approved. Following new-business discussion and a first reading of a proposed update to policy IJOA (field trips and athletic travel), the board moved into executive session on a hearing officer's recommendation to expel a student. The board reconvened in open session and then adjourned the meeting.

One recorded comment after the adjournment vote indicates President Beatty said, "I voted yes. I'm sorry. I was on mute. I apologize."
