Red Hook board approves joint application for up to $500,000 in state efficiency grant for sewer expansion and workforce housing

Board members described the LGE program as competitive and noted prior unsuccessful applications for LGE funding. The board discussed framing the resolution to show a joint town‑village project and to describe how the sewer expansion supports economic development and housing goals. The board indicated that, if the town and village were awarded the full requested amount, a portion would be allocated to the TND and a portion to other project areas described as northern and southern portions of the sewer project.
At the meeting board members proposed language edits to the whereas clauses to ensure the application clearly described the shared service agreement and the connection between the sewer infrastructure and the workforce/affordable housing project. A revised whereas clause was read into the record that referenced a shared sewer service agreement and the plan to finance a portion of the project cost through an amount up to $500,000.
The resolution was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote; the board indicated it would transmit the revised certified resolution as part of the application package. Board members noted that the maximum per municipality is $250,000 and that a combined application by town and village could request up to $500,000 total.
No award decision was made at the meeting; board members said the grant is competitive and that prior awards have varied. The board directed staff to include clearer language in the final resolution and to submit the application on behalf of both the town and village.
