Red Hook board authorizes grant application to help fund Aspen Wall bridge replacement

The move seeks an 80/20 grant split that would provide $560,000 in grant funds and require a $140,000 local match, bringing the total anticipated project cost to roughly $3,000,000. Design for the bridge replacement has been submitted to the New York State Department of Transportation for review.
The grant application was described at the meeting as time‑sensitive: the board noted the application deadline was two days away and said it would upload a certified resolution the next day to complete the submission. The board also said engineers at Hudson Valley Engineering Associates had been updating cost estimates as the project moved closer to construction.
Board members discussed a possible construction window of 2025 or 2026 depending on DOT timing. The resolution specifies the town would provide the local match from its appropriated aid fund reserve if the grant is awarded.
"So this is an 80 20 split. We'd be looking at $560,000 in grant funds. And we would have to match a hundred and 40,000. This brings the total project cost, to about $3,000,000 for the folks at home," a board member said during the discussion.
The motion was moved and seconded at the meeting and approved by voice vote; the board indicated it would finalize and upload the certified resolution the following day.
If DOT completes its review favorably, board members said construction could begin in 2025 or, if delayed, in 2026. No further contract awards or construction authorizations were made at the Jan. 22 meeting.
