The Keizer City Council voted unanimously Feb. 3 to approve a proclamation request from Casa of Marion County recognizing May as Foster Care Awareness Month and to schedule the proclamation reading at the council meeting on April 21, 2025.
City recorder Bissett told the council the request came from Vanessa Nordyke, executive director of Casa of Marion County, and asked that the proclamation be read at a council meeting in April or May. Council President Starr moved to approve the request; the motion was seconded and amended on the floor to set the presentation for April 21 to give the nonprofit time to prepare for May events. The amended motion passed without objection.
The council briefly discussed related proclamations and timing: council members noted that Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamations typically occur April 1 and that the council had openings for proclamations on April 21 and in early May. Bissett said the city’s proclamation schedule includes slots on April 21 and three slots on May 6 and May 19.
The council’s action simply schedules the proclamation reading and accepts the request from Casa of Marion County; no funding or programmatic commitments were made during the meeting.
