Superintendent reports NJDOE incident counts for fall term; detailed enrollment figures to appear on district website

Superintendent Dr. Handerhan reported closed incident counts required by the New Jersey Department of Education for reporting period 1 (Sept. 1–Dec. 31, 2024) at the Wall Township Board of Education meeting on Feb. 18, 2025.
Dr. Handerhan said Wall High School had a total of 19 NJDOE closed categorized incidents for the reporting period: 2 confirmed HIBs, 6 alleged HIBs, 1 confirmed incident of substance use and possession, 8 incidents of substance possession, 1 incident of assault and 1 incident recorded as a simple threat. He reported Wall Intermediate School had 19 closed categorized incidents: 6 confirmed HIBs, 11 alleged HIBs, 1 incident of assault and 1 fight. Central School had 2 closed categorized incidents (1 confirmed HIB and 1 alleged HIB). Old Mill School had 6 closed categorized incidents (all alleged HIBs). West Belmar, Allenwood and Wall Primary reported no incidents for the period, Dr. Handerhan said.
Dr. Handerhan also said the district’s January 2025 enrollment figures were reported; he indicated a total prekindergarten enrollment of 76 and said full grade‑by‑grade counts and the complete reporting document will be posted on the district website. “If you wish to see these specific objectives and activities that support the district goals, please visit our website,” he said of posted documents; the superintendent said the specific safety and enrollment breakdowns would be available online the next morning. He invited public comment on the reporting during the public‑comment portion of the meeting.
Board members took no formal action on the incident report during the meeting; Dr. Handerhan indicated ongoing matters would not be reported in this closed‑period data.
