Authority approves $924,159 contract to modernize elevators at Mitchell Court

The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee’s board voted on Feb. 12 to award Seltzer Orange Construction Co. a $924,159 contract to modernize elevators at Mitchell Court.
Allison Wisnicki, the authority’s construction vice president, said Mitchell Court’s modernization includes more extensive work than Lincoln Court because the elevator machine room requires framing, drywall and conditioned air in the penthouse. She told commissioners the larger scope explains part of the higher bid total.
Commissioners asked for more project detail and for better advance information on capital contracts at future meetings. Wisnicki said elevator lead times and submittal review can stretch a project to about eight months to a year from award; the work will be staged so one elevator remains available while the other is modernized.
The resolution awarding the contract passed by roll-call vote with commissioners present voting aye. Staff said the contract will be obligated against the 2023 capital fund program and the authority will track obligations and expenditures to HUD deadlines.
