Taylor County sends multi-million dollar local funding requests to state; Forest Capital Park added

Taylor County commissioners on Feb. 3 reviewed and approved an initial package of local funding requests to submit to the Florida Senate for fiscal year 2025–26.
The package presented by county staff includes requests the board had previously discussed: two fire-station projects (a King Beach request of $2 million and Shady Grove at $1 million), $2 million for Taylor County Fire Rescue at the airport, upgrades to the Taylor County Public Safety Complex, courthouse air-handling and ductwork, and repairs to the county animal shelter. The board also approved adding Forest Capital Hall Park improvements to the submission.
Staff explained a proposal to split the Forest Capital Hall Park request into two parts: a reduced arena-covering request (lowered to $1 million with board approval) and a separate parking-lot and infrastructure request to cover design/engineering and utility work. Packet materials cited $400,000 for parking design and $150,000 for electrical and water infrastructure, with $50,000 in cash and in-kind local match identified from the tourism development account.
County staff said they will file the formal narrative and house request on the next agenda for ratification and asked commissioners to review the project descriptions ahead of the legislative delegation workshop scheduled for Saturday.
