Officials review Boyd's Corner public-safety facility plans and warn staffing must come first

New Castle County officials updated the Public Safety Committee on Boyd's Corner on Feb. 18, saying the project is in an evaluation and planning stage and that staffing shortfalls must be solved before the county can rely on new buildings.
Colonel Jamie Leonard, chief of police, told the committee the county is reviewing the project against CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) accreditation standards and is working with the executive team and public-works staff to nail down requirements. “We're just in that evaluation, planning portion of this, and just trying to wrap our heads around what the, what the project entails. I think the EMS side seems to be pretty simple,” Leonard said.
