Coffeyville names two representatives to juvenile community corrections board

City Clerk Melissa Carter said the board requires 12 or more members representing law enforcement, education, corrections, social services and the general public; three positions are appointed by the Coffeyville City Commission. Carter said all three Coffeyville-appointed slots were vacant as of June 30: two full three‑year terms (expiring 06/30/2028) and one unfinished term expiring 06/30/2026. Carter said she received two applications: Shani Jamez (served on the board since February 2019, per the application) and Tasha Williams (new applicant). Williams attended the meeting and spoke about her nursing background, long-term residency in Coffeyville and experience advocating for youth safety, including work on Safe Routes to School.
After brief discussion and positive references to Williams’s past civic work, Vice Mayor Van Oster moved and Commissioner Jones seconded a motion to appoint Tasha Williams and (as recorded in the motion) Shawnee James to terms expiring June 30, 2028. The motion passed unanimously with Mayor Maples, Vice Mayor Van Oster, Commissioner Faulkner, Commissioner Jones and Commissioner Hendricks voting aye.
Note on applicant names: City staff presented an application record for “Shani Jamez.” The motion and subsequent roll call used the name “Shawnee James.” The commission’s action approved the two named in the motion record; staff should confirm and correct the spelling and identity in the official appointment records if necessary.
