Coffeyville accepts $701,503 CDBG award for Brown Street sewer improvements

The Coffeyville City Commission on July 22 approved Resolution R-25-79 authorizing the city to execute a Kansas Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) contract for sewer improvements on Brown Street.
Executive Director of Public Works Jim Wright told commissioners the city was awarded $701,503 in CDBG funds for the Brown Street sewer-line project (between Eldridge and Osage streets). Combined with $233,835 in local matching funds, Wright said the project budget totals $935,338. CDBG funds will be used for construction, engineering, inspection and professional services; Wright said the grant does not fund administrative costs.
Wright said engineering-design costs are estimated at $55,000, construction inspection at $25,000 and other professional services at about $44,000. He said the contract must be executed by Aug. 1, 2025, and the city must comply with CDBG procurement, labor, environmental review and reporting requirements.
When asked about schedule, Wright said the CDBG funding window provides time to start and complete the work; he said engineers have already done design work and the project should be ready to proceed.
Vice Mayor Van Oster moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Faulkner seconded. The motion passed unanimously with Mayor Maples, Vice Mayor Van Oster, Commissioner Faulkner, Commissioner Jones and Commissioner Hendricks voting aye.
