Fort Collins council advances 50-year Platte River Power Authority contract extension; consent calendar approved

The Fort Collins City Council on first reading approved two ordinances updating the city—ontracts with the Platte River Power Authority (PRPA) that extend and restate the agencies—xisting organic contract and the power supply agreement, and the council also adopted its consent calendar.

The measures, described by staff as an update to long-standing cooperation documents, were adopted on first reading by 7-0 votes. Council also approved the consent calendar (items 1—7, minus item 14) by a 7-0 vote earlier in the meeting.

Why it matters: Fort Collins is one of four municipal owners of PRPA; changes to the organic contract and power supply agreement shape how the joint agency plans and pays for future resources as the region moves away from carbon-emitting generation. Council members and public commenters said the contract duration, treatment of small-scale customer generation and protections for air quality were particularly important.

Public comment and council questions focused on three clusters of concerns.
