Councilmember Rodríguez and public safety leaders on June 4, 2025, recognized Los Angeles Fire Department crews, police and partner agencies for a coordinated response to an explosives incident in Pacoima that occurred in March.
Rodríguez described a volatile scene in which an individual had constructed pyrotechnics that detonated and damaged a rented property on Remington Street; firefighters, a bomb squad, hazardous‑materials personnel, federal partners and other city teams worked together to remove the risk and rescue occupants and animals. “Ellos resolvieron esta situación ... sin incidente y sin impacto comunitario,” Rodríguez said, praising the professionalism and coordination.
Officials said three of four dogs were rescued inside the structure and the final animal was retrieved once the building was secured. Staff described a controlled burn and other tactics that allowed crews to consume explosives on site without further damage; responders coordinated temporary shelter for displaced residents through Parks and Recreation and community partners and distributed emergency aid through nonprofit supports.
Fire and police leaders said the operation took several days and will be used as a best‑practice example by federal partners because of the thorough, methodical, multi‑agency approach. Rodríguez and council members publicly thanked named staff and deputies, and the chamber gave the responders a round of applause.
