County introduces new animal shelter director Jamie Bertman

Kyle Haney told commissioners Bertman worked at Forsyth Humane Society for more than 12 years, rising from volunteer coordinator to shelter manager, and that community members had expressed appreciation for her knowledge and leadership since she joined the county.
Bertman addressed the commissioners and described herself as a native of Winston‑Salem and said she had been on the job about five weeks at the time of the briefing. "I really am your hometown gal... I am really excited to serve our community in this way. So it's been an honor. I've been there 5 weeks and been working diligently with the Sheriff's Department to keep our community safe and also with the existing staff, who is truly incredible," she said. When asked about the budget, Bertman said she had partnered with Kyle and Kim and that the proposed budget items "seem very appropriate for what I need."
