County staff brief commissioners on state bills and tight vote at regional transit council over DART tax debate

Hughes), which would allow property owners who have gone through the appraisal-review-board process to appeal valuation disputes under $20,000 in justice court rather than district court, as currently provided under Chapter 46 of the Tax Code. Schauffner said county staff are working with appraisal‑district officials and the budget department to estimate the volume and operational impact on justice courts.
Commissioner Webb reported on the Regional Transportation Council meeting, saying members held a long debate about Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and a question whether the RTC should keep the county's legislative agenda neutral on a proposed change to the 1¢ transit tax. Webb said the RTC vote to remain neutral was narrowly decided, 16 to 17, after about two and a half hours of discussion.
