The Mount Airy–Surry County Airport Authority, meeting in a special session Feb. 17, approved release of retainage and budgeted additional site-preparation costs related to the terminal project.
The authority approved release of $40,285.85 in retainage to Sowers Construction for grant project 36244.490.91 (partial parallel taxiway extension) after staff reported the contractor had completed the work and no further subcontractor work was outstanding. The release clears the way for finance to issue the retainage payment.
The authority also reviewed additional site-prep costs and approved two line-item appropriations, $8,208 and $32,824, to be charged to the terminal site-preparation budget rather than the terminal construction contract. Authority staff said the change consolidates related work with Omega Construction and yields cost and scheduling efficiencies; the authority noted all credits would return to project contingency lines as appropriate. Authority members confirmed grant-management coordination with the grants manager would track the funding changes.
Both votes were approved by the authority; the record shows unanimous voice approval. Grant-manager coordination and finance processing are the next steps.
