The Building Standards Board on Feb. 13 unanimously ordered demolition, vacancy, securing and disconnection of utilities for 738 Suwanee Street after Development Services staff documented extensive structural and interior collapse.
Dangerous‑premises officer Ryan Garza presented photos showing a collapsed cross‑gable roof with a second‑floor collapse exposing interior framing, rotted siding, broken windows with graffiti, collapsed ceiling sheetrock, exposed wiring, damaged plumbing and spongy floors. Garza said the second floor was not accessible because of the hazard and that the house (built in 1958, per staff notes) exhibited major water damage in all components. Staff recommended demolition under City Code Article 8.
Board members confirmed with staff that subcode 6 was not included in the staff paperwork but that subcodes 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17 and 18 were alleged violations in staff materials; staff corrected the record and the board proceeded. A motion to order demolition, vacate and secure the property and disconnect utilities within 30 days passed unanimously.
Development Services will proceed with the standard enforcement process if the owner does not take corrective action during the 30‑day period.
