Board orders demolition of dilapidated home at 1214 Aaron Street

The Building Standards Board on Feb. 13 unanimously found the single‑story home at 1214 Aaron Street a public nuisance and ordered demolition within 30 days after Development Services presented evidence of advanced structural decay.
Dangerous‑premises officer Sergio Quintanilla described inspections showing a partially missing rear wall, rotted and exposed studs, water‑damaged and uneven floors, a foundation that had deteriorated to the point floor beams were on grade, missing ceiling sheetrock with exposed wiring, evidence of vagrant occupation and a spongy, unsafe walking surface inside the house. Quintanilla said the property had utilities but no active electrical service and no permits or scopes of work on file; staff recommended demolition under City Code, Article 8.
Board member motion language found the building unsafe and not feasible to repair; the motion passed unanimously. The Office of Historic Preservation determined the property is not eligible for historic designation. Development Services will proceed with the usual enforcement steps to carry out the demolition order if the owner does not act within the 30‑day period.
