City staff outline FY2026 budget calendar; council workshop planned July 8

Myra Cantu, Georgetown’s budget manager, presented the city’s FY2026 budget calendar and high‑level process at a council workshop, outlining public and internal milestones staff will use to build the proposed budget.
Cantu said the budget process begins annually with council goals and retreats (December) and spans roughly 10 months, using department base budgets, service‑level requests and capital improvement plans to produce a proposed budget in July and a finalized budget in September.
Key dates she listed: a budget workshop with council on July 8 (with July 9 reserved as a backup); the city receives the certified estimate of taxable value on July 25; the budget book is published Aug. 5 with tax‑rate public‑hearing dates set for Aug. 12; first reading of the budget and tax rate is scheduled for Aug. 26 with final adoption on Sept. 9; and the FY2026 budget would take effect Oct. 1. Cantu said staff intends to present CIP items in May and a multiyear budget outlook that month as well.
Cantu invited council questions and offered to adjust meeting timing to fit council calendars; she said staff typically tries to schedule the July workshop earlier in the day so the presentation can be completed in one session.
