The Wellington City Council on Oct. 7 amended its agenda to add a resolution supporting a housing developer's application to the Kansas housing tax-credit program and then separately approved the requested resolution to back that tax-credit application.
City staff presented a set of routine approvals and event permits; the council voted on the following items during the meeting.
Votes at a glance
- Resolution supporting housing tax-credit application (resolution no. 6405): Council approved a motion to adopt a separate resolution backing an application to the Kansas housing investor tax-credit program. The council recorded six affirmative votes for Resolution 6405 during the roll call.
- Voluntary demolition assistance, 214 North B: Council approved a staff recommendation to contribute up to $5,000 (50% match up to $5,000) toward a voluntary demolition at 214 North B. Staff said overall demolition costs exceeded the $5,000 grant cap; the application was included in the meeting packet.
- Chamber holiday light contest prize support: The council approved providing prize awards in the form of utility bill credits for the chamber's residential and commercial holiday light contest. KPP Energy, the city's power pool partner, agreed to cover half the cost this year, reducing the city's share.
- VFW toy run permit (Oct. 25): The council approved the VFW toy run scheduled Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saint Anthony / Saint Rose Fall Bazaar and dinner (Nov. 9): The council approved the fall bazaar and dinner event on East Seventh, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Several of the approvals were handled as consent or voice votes with motions and seconds; where the meeting used a roll call, the record shows six affirmative votes for Resolution 6405. No ordinances or public hearings were conducted at the Oct. 7 meeting. The council recessed twice for executive session to discuss pending litigation and returned to open session without taking action on litigation topics.
The agenda amendment to add the housing resolution was moved and seconded at the meeting start; council members then approved the consent agenda and subsequent staff-recommended items.
