The Downtown Estacada Commission on Oct. 7 selected a preferred logo for the city’s annual Christmas tree-lighting festival and discussed how to use it in promotional materials. Commissioners favored keeping event branding separate from the broader "Celebrating Estacada" logo and asked for minor design edits to finalize the mark.
Hannah presented the top three logo options and said the option with the most votes had six supporters in the group that day. Commissioners suggested adding a gold star at the top of the tree and adjusting type sizes so "Christmas tree capital of the PNW" is more visible. Several members supported keeping a distinct logo for the tree lighting and for Oktoberfest because they saw the events as different products that could be used year after year.
The commission discussed whether to add an event date or "First Friday in December" to the logo. Members noted the potential trade-off between adding a date and keeping the mark reusable across years; some supported including "First Friday in December" on banners and larger promotional pieces while keeping the primary logo uncluttered.
Hannah agreed to revise the winning option with a star and adjusted typography, and to circulate the revised designs before the November meeting so the commission can finalize artwork in time for T-shirt, banner and promotional planning. Members also discussed whether to include time/place information on larger pieces such as banners, and asked staff to confirm the event date—concluded in the meeting to be the First Friday in December.
Ending: The commission will revisit finalized art and merchandise decisions at its Nov. 4 meeting and proceed with banner and T-shirt planning if the revised logo is approved.
