County elections staff replaced CMOS batteries and await state guidance on warehouse square footage

At the July 1 meeting, Allegany County election staff reported completion of a CMOS‑battery replacement project and discussed warehouse storage capacity and monitoring ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
Diane said the CMOS battery replacement project began June 9 and concluded June 11; she told the board the vendor SNS replaced 134 batteries “in preparation of the 2026 elections.” Staff also said the county originally anticipated replacing voting machines in 2026 but will delay replacement until 2028, staying another election cycle with current equipment.
On warehouse space, Diane said the county has purchased a system to provide central fire monitoring for the warehouse and expects State Board of Elections guidance — due around July 1 — to specify the square footage required to house election equipment. She said she has been coordinating with Adam (facility staff) about potential expanded space but that departmental moves and disaster recovery work have delayed a final plan; she told the board the additional space under consideration currently is occupied by other departments and may require relocation of those items.
Board members described current storage as cramped and said packing for elections requires moving other items out of the way. Diane said a proposed shared training space (possibly shared with the sheriff’s office) is not expected to be ready for the 2026 cycle, so training will again be held at the fairgrounds.
