County approves lease with Harvest for Hunger for space at health and human services building

The Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners approved a second-reading ordinance authorizing a lease agreement between Pitkin County and Harvest for Hunger for space at the Michael W. Schultz Health and Human Services building.
J. R. Fielding, construction and asset director, presented the lease at second reading and said the county completed an RFP for services and selected Harvest for Hunger to operate from space inside the county HHS building. Grama Warr, executive director of Harvest for Hunger, told the board the organization will hold a grand‑opening ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on June 9 and intends to operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (40 hours per week).
Commissioners thanked the nonprofit and wished the group success. Commissioner Greg Poshman moved approval and Commissioner Francie Jacober seconded. The ordinance passed on second reading by voice vote.
The lease follows the county's procurement and selection process for services to operate from county‑owned social services space; Fielding said there were no changes from first to second reading. The board did not attach additional conditions during the public hearing; Harvest for Hunger will coordinate a ribbon cutting and begin services as indicated in public comment.
