Superintendent Quanisha Spicer told the Waco ISD Board of Trustees on Dec. 10, 2024, that the district's attendance-boundaries committee held its second meeting after a community thought-exchange that drew more than 1,000 participants.
"We had more than 1,000 people participate, of which 73% were parents and all campuses were represented," Spicer said. She said nearly half of survey respondents voted that adjusting attendance boundaries would benefit students. At the committee meeting, members reviewed draft elementary-boundary maps and two options for middle-school adjustments and raised questions about transfer policy, program placement and procedures.
Spicer said the committee surfaced policy and transfer issues to consider and that the board and staff will continue the work. Trustees who attended praised robust public participation and said they appreciated the thoughtful questions raised by community members. Spicer said the committee has additional meetings planned and that the next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 16, 2025.
No formal board action on boundary changes was taken at the meeting; the superintendent's report provided a status update and invited trustees to share takeaways from the community conversation.
