Commission appoints Frank Carboni to Regional Transportation Commission after split vote

The Nye County Board of County Commissioners appointed Frank Carboni to the Regional Transportation Commission on Feb. 19, with the term set to expire in January 2027. The appointment was decided by a 3–1–1 vote after commissioners and public speakers discussed the qualifications and experience each applicant offered.

Supporters highlighted Carboni’s prior experience on the RTC and local knowledge. Several public speakers and at least one caller urged the board to select Carboni because of his history of engagement on transportation issues in the county and his familiarity with road and maintenance challenges. Another applicant, Doug Blackstock, described a background in public works and planning but the board majority favored Carboni’s local experience and prior service.

The vote was not unanimous. One commissioner voted no and one abstained from the final tally; the clerk’s minutes reflect the board’s final result as three in favor, one opposition and one abstention. Carboni will represent Nye County on the regional body, which coordinates transportation funding and planning among member counties.
