Council backs grant application for Rails‑to‑Trails Phase 2; 20% local match required
Summary
The council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the town’s application to the North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Alternatives program for a segment of the Rails‑to‑Trails corridor between Tripp Road and U.S. 80, including a pedestrian bridge; the grant requires a 20% local match.
Sunnyvale’s interim Parks and Facilities director, Keri Pacheco, asked council for a resolution supporting submission of a Transportation Alternatives (TA) grant application to the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The project would construct a trail segment following the Rails‑to‑Trails alignment from Tripp Road to just south of U.S. 80 and would include a pedestrian bridge over U.S. 80.
Pacheco said the town coordinated with Sunnyvale ISD and TxDOT during project planning and obtained support from the Stone Canyon Homeowners Association. The grant call requires a 20% local match; the resolution approved by council is the municipal endorsement required for the application. Pacheco said the application was planned to be submitted that week.
Council approved the resolution unanimously; no public comment was offered on the item.
