Jesse Bridal, the Marshall Public Schools athletic director, presented a fall sports recap to the Board of Education on Jan. 13 that included individual state qualifiers, regional championships and program‑level growth.
Bridal said the department is operating under a mission of equitable, inclusive and innovative opportunities for student athletes and that the vision is “we're gonna compete at the top of the Interstate 8 athletic conference.” He highlighted cross‑country runner Jack Bidwell, who finished second at the state meet and was “only 2 seconds shy of the course record,” and other qualifiers who advanced to state competition.
Bridal described several team accomplishments: boys cross country and girls teams scoring top regional finishes; equestrian finishing fifth at the state meet and qualifying for the state meet for the first time since 2007; boys soccer winning the Interstate 8 conference championship with an 8‑7‑2 record; and individual qualifiers in swimming, including Grace Johnson. He also said girls golf moved from a last‑place finish the prior year to second place in the conference this season.
Bridal addressed adversity faced by programs such as tennis, which lost top singles players to injury and asked younger athletes to move up in the lineup, and football, which he said finished 3‑6 with two games decided on the final play. He said staff and coaches had emphasized resilience, training and growth at the lower‑level programs to build long‑term competitiveness.
Board members thanked Bridal and asked a few questions; no board action was required.
