Utah County commissioners voted 2-1 Oct. 22 to approve a nonbinding letter expressing interest in advanced air mobility development at the AirPark, which commissioners said is part of a state-designated inland port project.
A commissioner leading the item said the AirPark has an LLC that received state funding and a nonprofit that engages the local community. The speaker emphasized the county's desire to work with the AirPark while ensuring the project crosses the "t's" and dots the "i's" on compliance and community concerns. "I would hope that we can pass this today, even without your vote so that we can get them the letter and then continue to work with them before the funding comes in," the commissioner said.
Another commissioner described the letter as nonbinding and not an endorsement of one side in a local dispute; Fairfield's mayor had raised concerns that remain unresolved, the transcript shows. The board approved the letter 2-1; the meeting record states the vote passed with two ayes and one no but does not identify individual yes/no votes in the transcript.
The approved letter asks the county to engage with the AirPark and state partners to explore moving goods and services by air to reduce truck traffic tied to the inland port designation. Commissioners said the county will continue working with local leaders and the AirPark to address regulatory, economic and community questions before state funds are disbursed.
