Neighbors expressed both support and concern. Heather Barton, who said she lives two doors south of the property, told the commission she and her husband support the daycare and said, "as long as it isn't infringing on the other individuals, it needs to be safe." By contrast, resident David Russell said he and other neighbors were worried about traffic and property-value impacts and said a realtor had told him a school next door could affect resale disclosures.
Commissioners asked about drop-off and pick-up procedures; the applicant described a short, staged curbside drop-off pattern and estimated that five cars could unload in under five minutes. Staff also noted the proposal as presented follows the city's home-based day care provisions (as listed in the planning packet) and that required licensing and safety reviews remain the applicant's responsibility.
