Council adopts ordinance updating municipal court code (chapter 9) on second reading

Sheridan—s City Council on June 2 approved on second reading Ordinance 2293, an update to City Code Chapter 9 (courts, fines and imprisonment) that, according to city staff, aligns local code with current municipal-court procedures and state statute.
City attorney Brad Timish said much of Chapter 9 had remained unchanged since 1937 and that the proposed ordinance updates references, clarifies procedures, removes sections that are no longer relevant (notably because the city no longer operates a jail) and incorporates current Wyoming Rules of Criminal Procedure where applicable.
Timish walked the council through key revisions: statutory cross-references for expungement and probation, updates to confinement and juvenile offender sections, and repeals of provisions tied to outdated local practices. Council members had no questions during the second-reading discussion.
A roll-call vote recorded "Aye" from each council member present and the ordinance passed on second reading.
