The board approved a services agreement on Dec. 17 to allow the county to call on an outside contractor for building official services, plan review and inspection on an hourly basis when needed.
County administrator Lola Paddington (presenting staff) said the contract responds to the possible departure of the county building official and to fluctuating workload needs. The county solicited hourly quotes from three firms, received two responses, and the chosen vendor will supply staff only upon request; the agreement does not obligate the county to a continuous contract. The contract allows the county to request either a full-time building official or a lower-cost plans reviewer depending on demand.
Commissioners asked about contract language and an amendment staff had previously circulated; staff confirmed the requested changes are incorporated. The board approved the agreement by motion, second and voice vote.
Ending: Staff will use the agreement to avoid outages in plan review and inspections and to maintain permit processing if the county’s building official position is vacant.
