Fremont County honors County Attorney Brenda Jackson with retirement resolution

The Fremont County Board of County Commissioners on the county’s final meeting of 2024 adopted Resolution No. 42, Series of 2024, recognizing Brenda Jackson for roughly 33 years of service as Fremont County Attorney and civilian legal counsel.

Commissioner Bell read the resolution, which opens by noting, "Brenda Jackson, Esquire, will retire on December 31, 2024 after about 33 years of distinguished service as Fremont County Attorney," and summarizes her role in overseeing major facilities projects, zoning and subdivision work, and legal responses to challenges including wildfire, ransomware and the pandemic. "With that, Mr. Chair, I move to approve Resolution Number 42, Series of 2024, honoring county attorney Brenda Jackson on her retirement," Commissioner Bell said when presenting the document.

The resolution was seconded and approved by roll call with Commissioners Bell, Grantham and McFall voting aye. Commissioners and others offered personal tributes: incoming county attorney Eric (identified as Brenda’s successor) thanked her for mentorship and called her knowledge "invaluable." Former Commissioner Ed Norton and multiple current commissioners praised Jackson’s institutional knowledge and professional record. Jackson addressed the board, saying, in part, "it's been a pleasure, and it's been a privilege, quite honestly, to serve the community where I live," and that it was time to "pursue other interests." She confirmed her retirement effective December 31, 2024 in the resolution text.

The board presented a plaque and the adopted resolution to Jackson and paused for photographs. The resolution is ceremonial; no policy change or follow-up action was required.
