Commissioners authorize staff talks with VFW about leasing Kelly Gray boathouse site

The board authorized staff to meet with representatives of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post to discuss a potential lease of a county-owned portable building and adjacent site at the Kelly Gray boat house. County staff explained the parcel includes a portable building, a well, and electric service and is no longer needed as a voting precinct because the precinct has moved to Athena Baptist Church.
Commander Thrift of the VFW inspected the site and indicated the post could use the facility as a temporary meeting place. Sheriff Padgett signaled support for the idea and noted the VFW would work with staff on security considerations. The board approved a motion directing staff to convene with VFW leadership and return to the board with proposed lease terms.
