Ally (staff) and other event organizers reported successful Independence Day programming and discussed planning for upcoming events, including Oktoberfest on Sept. 20 and a grants workshop scheduled July 24. The police chief reported National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Middleburg Community Center ball field and noted the department has hired a new police administrative specialist who will start next week.
Rhonda North proposed an annual volunteer appreciation reception for Wednesday, Oct. 29, recommending a Caribbean-themed program and noting that the town schedules the reception on fifth Wednesdays to avoid conflicts with regular meeting nights. Council members discussed two possible approaches to public recognition — continuing a private reception and also posting a listing of volunteers or recognizing volunteers at Middleburg Day so the public can see the town's acknowledgment.
Separately, councilors reminded residents the farmers market remains active and encouraged mid-summer attendance so vendors continue to receive support.
