Del Mar Hills modernization nearing completion; staff expect school ready before start of term

District facilities staff reported July 22 that Del Mar Hills Academy’s modernization is nearly complete and on track for occupancy before the school year begins.
Nathan Wolf, facilities project staff, gave the update: the roof work and HVAC testing are complete, solar panels are installed and cleared by SDG&E, asphalt paving is finished and “final concrete is being poured,” and interior finishes are in place. Wolf said technology infrastructure is operational: ‘‘Wi‑Fi’s up, telephones are in, printers are being delivered at the end of this week,’’ and that furniture deliveries and assembly were underway.
Staff said teachers had visited the site in May and the district plans to provide classroom access in late July or early August so teachers can set up rooms before students arrive. Chris Delahanty said entrance and circulation should be similar to prior years, although limited landscape areas may remain off-limits while plantings establish. The board asked about trees, planter boxes and the exact date staff expect teachers to be on site; staff said they expect to provide updated access dates and to communicate logistics to principals and families.
Trustees also received brief updates on modernizations at Ashley Falls and Carmel Del Mar: community outreach meetings are planned in August and September and five classroom modernizations were reported at Carmel Del Mar this summer. Staff provided capacity guidance for the Carmel Del Mar multi‑use room (MUR), citing California building-code calculations that translate to a standing-room figure of about 360 people and approximately 253 seats when chairs are used.
Ending: Staff said Del Mar Hills should be ready by the start of school and that additional logistics (final landscaping, signage and teacher‑access dates) will be communicated to families and staff as specific dates are confirmed.
