MPO introduces draft transportation safety policy and maps 15 mobility hubs in Evansville

Matt (staff member) presented a draft transportation safety policy to the Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Committee and described a related planning exercise to identify “mobility hubs” across the City of Evansville.
Matt said the draft safety policy is intended to establish an approach for prioritizing safety in transportation planning and project development. He compared it to the MPO’s complete streets policy, saying the safety policy should be considered in project development and when applying for federal funds through MPO project applications. The policy is a draft and staff will return in September for committee approval.
On mobility hubs, Matt said staff have preliminarily identified 15 neighborhood or commercial hubs in the City of Evansville where concentrations of bus, bike and pedestrian facilities provide intermodal connections. He described the Franklin Street hub as the first detailed map produced: the back of the Franklin Street map contains a matrix showing what is available at each hub, how routes connect between hubs, which routes run day or night or on Sundays, and QR codes linking to the METS micro app and MyRide app for stop times and more detail.
Matt said single maps will be created for all 15 hubs eventually and that staff plan to expand hub mapping to Newburgh and Henderson in the future. He said the Franklin Street map illustrates bike share locations, shelters, routes and access to the Pigeon Creek Greenway.
