Commission on Aging to Volunteer at Joint Youth Commission Service Event April 3

Members of the Clark County Commission on Aging agreed to staff a joint service event with the youth commission on Thursday, April 3, and discussed staffing shifts, roles and a March 27 organizational meeting for volunteers.

Susan (last name not specified), commission member, described the event and said it had been the highest-supported option in a joint survey. The event runs Thursday, April 3 from 12 to 4 p.m.; Susan said the plan is to have one or two commission on aging members paired with one or two youth commission members for each hour-long shift.

Commission members asked about the activities and logistics. Susan said the youth commission planned interactive activities including a large wheel with generational and mental-health questions, prize giveaways, and a button maker; volunteers would run the game, collect input and provide feedback for the youth commission’s annual report.

Members volunteered for shifts at the River City Church location; Mike Anderson said he was available for any or all shifts, Cass offered a late shift, and other members signed up. A pre-meeting for volunteers is scheduled for March 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the youth house; Susan said she would attend and report back for members who cannot attend.

Members emphasized that participation is voluntary and that the event will proceed regardless of commission involvement; the commission’s role is to volunteer at a table and solicit feedback from attendees.
