The Moreno Valley City Council directed staff to work with the Parks and Recreation Committee and the Moreno Valley Sports Club to identify how an additional day of badminton play and a proposed regional badminton tournament could be accommodated at the Conference and Recreation Center (CRC).
Current CRC gym scheduling includes weekday evening uses (youth basketball, open volleyball, badminton). Staff reported typical open-play participation at about 10 players for badminton and similar counts for volleyball on weekday evenings. Council favored exploring weekend or non-conflicting time slots and asked staff to seek solutions that would not displace established youth-league play.
Public commenters representing the Moreno Valley Sports Club said they would supply tournament organization, find sponsors, and preferred weekend morning hours if possible. The council unanimously approved the referral to the parks committee so staff and committee members could work with the sports club on scheduling and potential tournament support.
