Linn County health department reports rising visits, schedules mammogram bus and grant deadlines

She listed outreach events and services: a baby-sprinkle event on Feb. 14 in Pleasanton with WIC and car‑seat demonstrations; a mammogram bus scheduled Feb. 18 with a small number of appointments still available; WIC‑on‑wheels clinics on Feb. 20 in Blue Mound; a KDHE preparedness workshop Feb. 20 required for public health emergency preparedness (FEP); and planned community programs including Alzheimer’s education, safe-sitter classes and summer physical-activity promotions.
Snyder said she submitted a poster abstract on the department’s website modernization to the national WIC conference and was accepted to present. She also said the department will start work on four aid‑to‑local grant applications — state formula, immunization action plan (IAP), public health emergency preparedness (FEP) and maternal and child health (MCH) — that must be signed by the commission before submission.
Snyder emphasized department services are available to all residents regardless of income or program enrollment. Commissioners asked for a five‑minute legal session later in the meeting to discuss an unrelated item; Snyder said she would schedule the department on agendas monthly to provide fresh numbers.
No formal action or vote took place on Snyder’s report; she requested to return with grant paperwork once applications are ready.
