Meeker County approves six‑year interim use permit for aggregate mining in Dassel Township

Greg Schulz, Meeker County land‑use director, presented the Lindbergh Excavating interim use permit application (IUP 16556) to the board on Feb. 18. The proposal covers aggregate mining and processing in the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 4, Township 119 North, Range 29 West, in Dassel Township. Schulz said the site has operated under prior permits since 2008.
Schulz told the board that roughly eight acres have already been mined, about 73,000 tons removed over the past six years, and that the company projects roughly five additional acres and about 80,000 cubic yards of material over the next six years. He said the pit’s life at current usage rates is expected to be approximately another 15 years. Schulz said the operation processes material with portable crushing equipment and retains stormwater on-site in interior ponds; he referenced a Minnesota DNR appropriations permit obtained for a pond used as wash-water supply.
Commissioner Psamke moved to approve Interim Use Permit application number 16556 to mine, wash and process aggregate in an A‑1 agricultural preservation district in the described legal location, with the conditions in the staff report. Commissioner Van Ort seconded. The board voted aye; the motion carried.
No other board action was recorded on the item beyond the permit approval.
