Council approves no-parking zones for transit stops and considers east-side options on Dane Street

The Mankato City Council on Jan. 13 approved consent calendar items directing parking control changes: a no-parking zone for a transit bus stop on Marwood Drive and parking controls on Dane Street tied to a nearby redevelopment.

Council member McLaughlin asked staff to confirm that the Marwood change applies only to the south side between two driveways and that the intent is to formalize a no-parking zone near a new or replaced bus stop. City staff confirmed the restriction is the south side between two driveways (about 66 feet) and said the change formalizes an existing transit stop configuration.

On Dane Street, McLaughlin asked whether the east side could be considered for parking restrictions because of merging and visibility issues when traffic comes off Bell and because redevelopment on the corner prompted an earlier petition for west-side changes. City staff told the council they typically would consult property owners before permanently changing parking but that staff have temporary authority under city code to place temporary parking adjustments. The council asked staff to engage property owners on the east side and return with recommendations.

The council voted to approve consent calendar items j and k (the parking resolutions) by voice vote.
