Board adopts updated policy bundles; public commenters urge changes on gender/health education provisions

Trustee and staff response: Trustees acknowledged the concerns and reiterated that the policy updates were intended to bring the district into compliance with California Education Code and to rely on CSBA model policy as the legal baseline. Staff said changes in federal guidance and state law will prompt additional edits and that the district can bring specific policy provisions back for focused review. Trustees asked that public commenters identify specific policy sections for staff and legal counsel to review, and staff confirmed that legal review can be scheduled if requested.

Board action: After public comment and trustee questions, the board approved the policies by roll call. Two trustees recorded a “no” vote in discussion of the global adoption and asked for additional legal review on specific points; the majority vote carried the motion.
