Sedgwick County applies for intersection-safety grants; additional engineering contracts on consent agenda

Sedgwick County Public Works told commissioners the county plans grant applications to the Kansas Highway Safety Improvement Program for several intersection-signal projects and will accept a KDOT funding agreement for a separate MacArthur corridor project.
Public Works said grant applications include signalization projects at 47th & Greenwich, 160th & 21st (already in the county CIP), MacArthur & 119th (linked to an existing CIP project for a roughly five-mile stretch) and 45th & Ridge Road. The county said the 45th & Ridge Road application requests $550,000 for construction of a traffic signal; that intersection was recently converted to a four-way stop.
Staff also described item X on the consent agenda, a KDOT agreement for a MacArthur project totaling $1,750,000, for which the county's share is $175,000. Public Works noted three professional engineering agreements on the agenda with county fiscal notes: item U ($74,000 county fiscal note), item V ($95,000) and item W (approximately $100,000).
Public Works said the grant application for 160th & 21st would replace some funding already in the CIP, and that the 47th & Greenwich application would request signalization not currently in the CIP. The projects and engineering agreements were placed on the consent agenda for the commission's consideration at the upcoming meeting.
The county did not hold a formal vote during the agenda review; staff asked commissioners whether they had questions before the Wednesday consent agenda.
