Council hears update on Belvedere‑Tiburon Recreation finances and possible contract renegotiations

Council Member Nick Farr alerted colleagues to a Belvedere City Council agenda item reported in outside coverage that would seek to reduce or restructure payments Belvedere makes related to Ranch facility maintenance (staff referenced a payment in the $30k–$40k annual range). Town staff said the current lease agreement between the joint powers authority (JPA)/Ranch and the Town of Tiburon is roughly ten years old and includes maintenance responsibilities; any renegotiation would likely be handled by staff and legal counsel and would also require approval by the Ranch board.
Council members expressed concern about possible financial impacts to the Ranch and urged staff to monitor negotiations. One council member said they did not want renegotiations to create a hardship for the Ranch, which relies largely on programming revenue rather than general fund support. Staff clarified they would bring any proposed contract changes back to the council and the Ranch board for review.
