The Middleton City Council recorded several formal actions at its Dec. 18 meeting: approval of the consent agenda, authorization for the Middleton Chamber of Commerce to use the trolley station without rental fees, adoption of Resolution 513-24 (commercial/industrial intent), adoption of Resolution 514-24 (ITD collaboration), adoption of Ordinance 706 (creating a youth council), and tabling the city’s draft legislative agenda for further work and a workshop in January.
Consent agenda: The council approved the consent agenda (minutes of Dec. 4, payroll ratification and accounts payable through Dec. 6). No individual dissent was recorded.
Trolley-station rental: By motion the council authorized the mayor to approve a one-year trolley-station rental agreement with the Middleton Chamber of Commerce for the second Thursday of each month in 2025 and waived rental fees. Kayla Fern, speaking for the Chamber, requested the waiver. The motion was moved, seconded and carried.
Ordinance and resolutions: The council waived the three-reading rule and adopted Ordinance 706 establishing a Middleton Youth Council. The council also adopted Resolution 513-24 proclaiming the intent to increase commercial and industrial concerns in the city and Resolution 514-24 thanking the Idaho Transportation Department and pledging to work toward mutually beneficial traffic solutions on State Highway 44.
Legislative agenda: Councilmembers debated the draft 2025 legislative agenda and several members requested a workshop to develop a more comprehensive package. A motion to table the legislative agenda until January passed; staff will schedule a workshop the week of Jan. 6 and solicit department-head input prior to that workshop.
