The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 approved a zoning condition modification at 3098 Trickham Road that allows licensed massage therapy to be offered as part of an existing chiropractic office.
Staff explained that the property was rezoned to Office/Institutional (O/I) in 2000 with conditions that restricted certain uses; condition 2 expressly prohibited massage therapy. The applicant, operating as Strange Chiropractic and Wellness Center, requested removal of that restriction so that licensed massage therapists can provide treatment as a complement to chiropractic care.
Commissioner Weatherby moved to strike massage therapy from the prior condition and to add a new condition specifying that massage therapy be allowed only as a component of chiropractic services on the site; Commissioner Carter seconded. The board voted unanimously to approve the modification. Staff noted there were no letters of support or opposition on file and that Woodstock (city) offered no comment on the request.
The change allows the practice to offer massage therapy to patients of the chiropractic clinic; the condition limits massage use to the chiropractic business and does not open the site to standalone massage businesses.
