The Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners approved multiple administrative items and grant submissions, and tabled a proposed resolution on financial controls for the sheriff's office, during its Jan. 7, 2025 meeting.
Most items were approved unanimously and with little discussion. Commissioners voted to approve the minutes from the Dec. 31, 2024 meeting; authorize a petty/reimbursement bank account for the sheriff's office capped at $1,000 (Resolution No. 1-2025); and approve a set of social-services items, including an amendment to the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program memorandum of understanding, a substitute cook professional-services agreement for senior services at $100 per day, and two grant-application submission forms for senior services (one $10,000 application to Rocky Mountain Health Plan and a separate $10,000 application to the Ann Shutes [transcript: "Ann Shoots"] Family Foundation, both listed as no-match submissions).
The board approved vehicle wraps for MOCO Transportation (option No. 2) not to exceed $15,000, consistent with the department's 2025 budget allocation. The board also approved the 2025 organization of the board and the 2025 Board of County Commissioners meeting schedule as presented in the packet and workshop materials.
On an enforcement/oversight matter, the board heard a presentation earlier in the meeting from sheriff's office command staff and then voted to table a proposed resolution regarding additional financial controls for the sheriff's office until April 5, 2025 (the board instructed staff to revisit the item in Q1 or bring it back sooner if needed). The motion to table passed unanimously.
The board granted two retail liquor-license renewals: Pleasant View Liquor LLC (listed in the packet at 2606 Highway 491, Pleasant View) and Love's Travel Stop and Country Store Inc. (listed at 7006 Highway 160/491, Cortez). County staff confirmed sheriff's-office checks and other routine approvals were complete for both renewals.
Other approvals included routine grant-application submissions (described above) and a professional-services agreement to provide substitute cook services for the Senior Services Center at $100 per day. All of those motions carried without recorded dissent.
The meeting also included reports from county staff and department heads, including an update from the county attorney's office about ongoing civil litigation matters and an MOU draft for landfill policing of dead-animal disposal. A public commenter thanked the board for recent listening sessions related to Resolution No. 2-2015 earlier in the meeting.
