Montezuma County commissioners rescind 2015 renewable-energy resolution

The Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners voted to rescind Resolution No. 2-2015 at its Jan. 7, 2025 meeting.

Commissioner (unnamed) moved to rescind Resolution No. 2-2015, which the motion described as a prior resolution “in support of renewable energies.” The motion was seconded by another commissioner and passed on a voice vote of three "aye" votes.

The commissioner who moved the rescission said, "It kinda speaks for itself, but we will take a balanced approach to all energy sources in Montezuma County." No further debate or amendments were offered during the public meeting record.

The board chair called for the vote immediately after the motion and the clerk recorded the voice vote as three ayes. The transcript shows the board had held two recent public listening sessions on the item before the Jan. 7 meeting; a resident speaker thanked the board for those sessions during the public-comment period earlier in the meeting.

The rescission removes the county's formal statement of support embodied in Resolution No. 2-2015; the board did not adopt a replacement policy or new resolution at the meeting. The minutes and audio record indicate the board intends to take a "balanced" posture toward different energy sources going forward, but contain no additional policy text or specific directives resulting from the rescission.

The rescission was one of several administrative and procedural items handled during the Jan. 7 meeting, which also included grant approvals, contract actions and routine licensing items.

The board adjourned after receiving routine departmental reports and approving its 2025 organization and meeting schedule earlier in the session.
