Wright County updates parks ordinance to allow county-sponsored special hunts and pedal-assist e-bikes

The Wright County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an amendment Tuesday to the county parks and recreation ordinance (25-5) to expand the county’s ability to host special hunts and to address pedal-assist e-bikes.
Staff said the revisions replace language limiting special hunts to veterans with broader authority for Wright County–sponsored hunts; the county held a recent archery special hunt that drew substantial interest, staff said, with several hundred applicants for a small number of slots. The ordinance change also adds language to permit pedal-assist electric bicycles (class 1 e-bikes) consistent with state classifications that many other counties have adopted.
The board held a public hearing and recorded no speakers; the motion to approve the ordinance amendment carried unanimously. The board also approved summary publication language (resolution 2,563).
County staff said the special-hunt pilot has been conducted in several parks including Bertram, Harry Larson and Montissippi and that rangers and the sheriff’s department coordinated to manage user safety and zones. Staff reported broad public interest in the pilot and said they had not received complaints from park users during the current hunt period.
No fiscal impacts were detailed during the discussion; staff said future special hunts and e-bike policies will be administered by Parks and Recreation.
