Development Review Committee recommends approval of Liberty Co. Phase 2 with flood-elevation condition; Nassau Crossing splash pad clears health review

At its Feb. 11 meeting, the Nassau County Development Review Committee reviewed two site-engineering items and provided advisory recommendations to department heads.
On BSP24-024 (Liberty Co. Phase 2 site engineering plan), Constance Lake, deputy floodplain administrator, said the building/floodplain office “would recommend approval, but condition that the FEMA BFEs must be provided prior to submittal of building permit applications.” Planning, development services, health and fire reviewers offered no further comments on the item during the meeting. The committee closed the tab and moved to the next agenda item.
On SP24-047 (Nassau Crossing Park splash pad), planning, development services and fire staff reported no further comments. Ronnie Mitchell of the health department told the committee that the splash pad must be licensed as an aquatic facility through the Florida Department of Health and go through the state engineering review and approval process before opening.
Why it matters: the Development Review Committee is an advisory technical body; its recommendations and conditions guide department-head approvals and subsequent permitting. For BSP24-024, the flood-elevation condition must be satisfied before building permits are accepted. For the splash pad, state aquatic-facility licensing is a requirement the applicant must meet.
